Pompano Beach, FL — With Bombilla Hanover taking a week off, Abbey Road Hanover, who had been knocking on the door the past couple of starts, took advantage of her absence and cruised to a handy victory in Pompano Park’s Sunday night special for the mares.

With Kevin Wallis handling the lines, this 4-year-old daughter of Rocknroll Hanover left alertly, yielded to Fiesta Camcun (Stephane Lareau) — briefly — and was out to reclaim the lead shortly after the :27.2 opener.

She then clocked panels of :55.4 and 1:24.3 en route to a 1:53.2 triumph, measuring just over a length. Fiesta Camcun comfortably held the second spot over a very fast closing Southwind Trini (Wally Hennessey). Diamond Amber (Bruce Ranger) and Windows Online (Rick Plano) earned the final two awards in the septet.

After the event, Wallis said, “She looked to be in a pretty favorable spot with Bombilla off for the week and I just wanted to stay out of trouble. Edgar (trainer Clarke) has the mare sharp and I kind of wanted to let her do it on her own.”

The victory was worth $5,000 to her owners, Robert Orr and Gary Jonas, and $3.00 to those who plunked $2 to win on Abbey Road Hanover’s nose.

She has now banked $25,410 in 2013 and $128,020 lifetime.

Also of note was the 2013 debut of Rescue Team, a 3-year-old daughter of Western Terror.

Owned by New Jennaration, trained by Travis Kolaczynski and driven by Wally Hennessey, Rescue Team paced her winning mile in 1:54.3, a new lifetime mark, that included a final panel in :28.4, despite headwinds gusting to 35 mph in the stretch.
