by Jeff Zidek, for the MSOA

Washington, PA — The Meadows Standardbred Owners Association is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for the 2011 MSOA Collegiate Scholarship, for the 2011-12 academic year. The scholarship is worth a total of $5,000.

Additionally, applications are also being accepted for the $1,000 Dr. Barry Betts Memorial Scholarship, sponsored by LCM Nutraceuticals, also for the 2011-12 academic year.

CSC Insurance Options has just announced that it will support the MSOA’s Collegiate Scholarship efforts with a $2,500 contribution, bringing the total scholarship funds available to $8,500. The MSOA thanks CSC owner and MSOA member Tom Svrcek for his support of the program.

“We’re very pleased to continue to offer the MSOA scholarship, and we’d like to again thank LCM Nutraceuticals and CSC Insurance for joining us in our efforts,” said MSOA President Rich Gillock. “The past winners have represented the MSOA quite well, and we look forward to seeing the applications roll in for this year.”

Sons or daughters of an owner, trainer, driver or caretaker that has participated in harness racing in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania on a regular basis over the past two years preceding application are eligible. At least one parent must be a member in good standing with the MSOA, and the applicant must be at least a senior in high school.
