Alberg takes leg 27 of The Pen vs. The Chip

Pen handicapper Scott Alberg took top honors in leg 27 of HANA Harness’ The Pen vs. The Chip Handicapping Challenge sponsored by the Hambletonian Society, Meadowlands, Tioga Downs, and Vernon Downs by scoring a Win ROI of 1.300 with gross earnings of $28.60 in a favorite-laden card on Monday (August 6) at Grand River Raceway.

Alberg had a total of five winners on the day’s race card.

Earl the Pearl was top dog in the Exacta side challenge by scoring a ROI of 1.980 with gross earnings of $87.10.

Through 27 legs of the competition, the updated leaderboard shows Mark McKelvie still in front with an ROI of 1.050 with Trackmaster’s Chatsworth Consortium and Pandy remaining in the second and third slots. Now starting to close in on the top three, Mr. Trifecta is in fourth place, only $41.70 away from the third spot.

This week, the handicapping challenge pace slows, albeit briefly, with only one handicapping leg this weekend on Sunday (August 12) where handicappers remain north of the border for Flamboro Downs’ C$632,000 Confederation Cup race card, which will be contested along with C$130,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Gold finals for 3-year-old trotting fillies and colts and geldings.
