Albert “Doc” Grass, 84, dies

Columbus, OH — Albert “Doc” Grass, 84, of Brattleboro, Vt., died Nov. 13, 2010.

Born in Sugar Hill, N.H., Dr. Grass practiced equine veterinary medicine in Vermont, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts for over 50 years.

He was passionately involved in the Standardbred business as an owner and breeder for over 40 years and bred and raced such horses as Damon Runyon 1:54.2f ($337,142), Etouffee 1:56 ($159,044), Witching Wind 3,1:55 ($120,911), and Deacon Black 1:58.2 ($81,504).

Dr. Grass was past president of the Vermont and New England Veterinary Associations, the Western New England Harness Association, past National Vice President of Harness Horseman International, and past director of the Pinehurst Driving and Training Club.

He is survived by his wife, Dierdre; daughter, Lindy (Barclay) Poling; and sons, Bill (Liz Silk) and Jeff (Lorrie Schultz). He was preceded in death by his brother, William; sister, Jean; and grandson, Nicholas.
