Alexa Skye sets track record 1:49.3 in Meadows top distaff pace

Washington, PA — Alexa Skye threw down a swift 1:21.4 three-quarters and kept right on rolling, setting a track record 1:49.3 in Wednesday’s (July 17) Filly & Mare Open Handicap Pace at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows. That’s the fastest mile ever paced by an older mare at The Meadows.

Alexa Skye appeared that she might be vulnerable after the demanding fractions, but the 7-year-old daughter of Somebeachsomewhere-Pirouette Hanover got home comfortably for Dave Palone, 1-1/2 lengths better than the rallying Be My Rose N, with Fighting Evil third. The time knocked a tick from the mark Alexa Skye previously shared with Medusa.

Aaron Merriman piloted three winners, including a pair for Dirk Simpson, while Mike Wilder also enjoyed a triple on the 15-race card.

Live racing at The Meadows continues Thursday (July 18) when the 15-race program features a pair of carryovers: $2,072.27 in the Early Pick-4 (race 1), $725.22 in the Pick-5 (race 11). First post is 12:45 p.m.
