Alfredo ‘Freddy’ Collazo, 57, dies

Columbus, OH — Alfredo “Freddy” Collazo, of Newtonville, N.J., passed away Dec. 15. He was 57.

He was born in Florida, Puerto Rico — one hour west of San Juan — and was a longtime resident of southern New Jersey. Mr. Collazo trained Standardbred horses since the 1980s, and accumulated 216 wins in his career. When not at the track or the stable, he loved to go fishing and spending time with family and friends.

Mr. Collazo is survived by his children, Rafael, Wilfredo, and Cynthia Collazo; his father, Israel Collazo; brothers, Luis and José Collazo; and his loving companion, Michelle Smith. He was preceded in death by his mother, Nedinia Torres.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Wednesday (Dec. 21), from 6-7 p.m. at the Marinella Funeral Home on 102 N. Third Street, Hammonton, NJ 08037. Funeral services will begin at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Cremation and burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
