Alrajah One rules in Italy

The 4-year-old Alrajah One, who last year won the Italian Derby, is in a class of his own at present. On Sunday afternoon (Nov. 15), he took his third win in a row in a Group 1 race.

At the Ghirlandina racetrack in Modena, Italy, Alrajah One, with top Swedish driver Ôrjan Kihlström, won the Gran Premio Unione Europea with a purse for the winner of $200,000. Alrajah One was timed in 1:57.1f (mile rate).

Alessandro Gocciadoro, who is Italy’s leading trainer and driver, now trains Alrajah One, who last year was trained by Claus Erik Hollman.

Gocciadoro had no less than eight trotters in the Gran Premio Sunday afternoon. He opted to drive Axl Rose, who finished second.

Alrajah One is sired by the Swedish champion sire, Maharajah, and first foal out of a mare sired by Varenne. Alrajah One has now raced 22 times and has 10 wins and lifetime earnings of $895,000.
