Al’s Hammered takes Rosecroft feature

by Pete Medhurst, for Rosecroft Raceway

Ft. Washington, MD — When an Open Pace goes a middle half of :58, chances of winning from last are greatly reduced. Someone forgot to tell Al’s Hammered and Allan Davis. The duo parlayed a second over trip to victory in 1:53.1 on a track rated sloppy on Sunday night (Sept. 23) at Rosecroft Raceway.

Tyler Davis and All The Cookies looped Hickory Aloha out of the gate and cut fractions of :27.1, :56.3, and 1:25.1. Machamillion N (Jonathan Roberts) took the first over plunge and went after the leader, but started to stall at the three-quarter pole and Davis had to check up an overloaded Al’s Hammered before heading three-wide and launching the winning rally. His last quarter was :27.3 and he held off pocket sitting Hickory Aloha (Timmy Offutt) by inches and paid $7.80 to win.

It was career win 43 for the son of Droppinthehammer who is owned by Eddie and Kathleen Davis and trained by Martin Davis. It was one of three wins on the card for Allan Davis who won a conditioned trot with Harry and Carolyn Smith’s Don Dorado for trainer Andrew Fulton and a Maryland Sires Stakes preliminary with Remarkable De Vie in 1:59.2. The freshman son of Charlie De Vie is owned by Steven Mullen and trained by Syl King Jr.

Russell Foster had a driving triple. Foster scored in the winners over $6,000 last five pace with OK Fantastic for Bill Sartin. The son of Mach Three won in 1:52.4 for trainer Joe Hundertpfund Jr. Foster also notched wins with Arty Foster III’s Beach Art ($7.80) for trainer Arty Foster Jr. and Anotherbugga ($7.40) for owner-trainer John Bell.

Sean Bier took the $10,000 Open II category with I’m Supersonic A. The Mach Three gelding owned by Christine Crissman-Bier and Joan Hamstead held off pocket sitting Wichita Lineman to win in 1:52.4.

Frank Milby had a solid night in the rain notching a pair of victories for trainer John Hollingsworth as Boot Leg won the opener for the Twin Ponds Stable and Abelard Hanover earned his 55th career win. The classy son of Rocknroll Hanover is owned by Suzanne Waskey and Four Maples Stable.

John Wagner scored with his own Electric Albert ($3.60) who moved to the lead past longshot Majestos after the opening quarter for trainer Arlene Cameron. Wagner also guided Anna B to a win in a Maryland Sires Stake preliminary in 1:58.2 for owner-trainer Roger Hans.

Jonathan Roberts scored in the last non-betting early race with Iron Mine Branch LLC’s I Deliver for trainer Greg Haverstick in 1:59.3.

Smart Rokker and Declan Donoway had the fastest mile of the night, uncorking a pacesetting 1:52.1 score for owner Carolyn Boyce and trainer Brian Malone.
