Alvin E. Long, 76, dies

Columbus, OH — Alvin E. Long, 76, of Washington Court House, Ohio, died May 16, 2011, at the OSU Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.

He was born Nov. 15, 1934, in Pleasant View, Ohio, to the late Cecil Omar and Marcelle Miller Long.

Mr. Long was a driver-trainer with the Long Brothers Stables until his retirement in 2006. As a driver, he won 1,015 races and his horses earned nearly $1.9 million in purses.

He was a member of the Pleasant View Church of Christ, the Jeffersonville Lodge #468 F&AM, a social member of the Burnett-Ducey Post #3762 VFW, and a member of the Fayette County Harness Horsemen’s Association.

He is survived by his sons, Jeffrey and Stephen Mennor; daughter, Vicki; sisters, Marilyn and Judith (Ted) Craig; grandchildren, Kelly and John; and his long time companion, Susie Coil. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Neal and Marion.

The funeral service will be held on Friday (May 20) at 1 p.m at the Morrow Funeral Home in Jeffersonville with Keith Little officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call at the Jeffersonville Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday (May 19).
