Another gambling bill defeated in Illinois House

Columbus, OH — The Springfield (IL) State Journal-Register is reporting that scaled-back legislation to expand gambling in Illinois failed in the Illinois House on Wednesday night (Nov. 9), representing a victory for Gov. Pat Quinn, who opposes adding slot machines at the state’s racetracks, which was a major component of the legislation.

Senate Bill 1849 received 58 votes in the 118-member Illinois House. It needed 71 votes to become law over a potential Quinn veto.
