Another six-bagger for Brian Sears

For the second time in 10 days, driver Brian Sears posted a six-winner card at the Meadowlands.

Sears capped the Sunday afternoon program with wins in the last three races for a total of six on the 11-race card. He also won six races on Friday, March 10.

For the week, the 38-year-old Sears posted 15 wins, eight seconds and eight thirds from 55 drives for a meet leading total of 109 wins. His purse earnings at the Meadowlands this year now top $1.7 million toward a career total of nearly $51 million.

Lourdes A [$4.20] in the third race provided his first winner on Sunday afternoon followed by Porcini Hanover [$4.40] in the sixth, Whispers Spy [$4.60] in the seventh, Caesar [$3.40] in the ninth, Kiss of Life [$12.40] in the tenth and Arrowsmith [$10.40] in the 11th.

Sears will be visiting family in Florida on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week while he takes a three-day suspension for an interference infraction [fourth race on March 11]. He will miss one Meadowlands program, Wednesday, March 22.

MEADOWLANDS SIMULCASTS DUBAI WORLD CUP

Magna Graduate, who won the Pegasus at the Meadowlands, is one of 19 thoroughbreds from North America who are scheduled to be in Dubai for the $21 million Dubai World Cup meeting at Nad Al Sheba Racecourse on Saturday, March 25.

Four of the Dubai races will be simulcasted to the Meadowlands, starting with the $2 million Dubai Golden Shaheen [fourth race] at 9:55 a.m. The Meadowlands will also offer the $5 million Dubai Sheema Classic [fifth race] at 10:50 a.m., the $5 million Dubai Duty Free [sixth race] at 11:30 a.m. and the world’s richest race, the $6 million Dubai World Cup [seventh race] at 12:20 p.m.

Magna Graduate, trained by Todd Pletcher, is pointing toward the World Cup.

Gates at the Meadowlands will open at 9:30 a.m.

TAX BREAK WEEKEND OFFERS SAVINGS AT THE MEADOWLANDS

The Meadowlands wants racing fans to enjoy savings on Tax Break Weekend – Friday, April 14 and Saturday, April 15.

On both nights, Grandstand and Clubhouse admission will be $1 and all programs will cost $1. Concession stand discounts include $1 for a small coffee, small tea or 16-ounce Pepsi, $1.50 for the soup of the day and$1.75 for a Hebrew National hot dog.

There will be special drawings for airline tickets for those dining in the Terraces Restaurant, the tiered dining room on the Clubhouse Level. Five lucky diners each of those two nights will win round-trip coach tickets for two anywhere in the continental United States, courtesy of Continental Airlines [subject to blackout restrictions].

Additionally, both nights there will be a 10 percent discount on the new prime rib buffet in Terraces.

AROUND THE MEADOWLANDS FOR MARCH 19, 2006

All Superfecta programs will be offered at the Meadowlands this year on May 20, May 27, July 8, July 15, July 29, August 4 and August 5. Superfecta wagers, which involve picking the first four finishers in order, feature a low 15 percent takeout.

The Meadowlands’ turf course will be put to use during the harness meet this June – by thoroughbreds. There will be all turf programs of eight races each on June 5, 12 and 19 while the Monmouth Park grass course is under renovation. Post time those three dates will be 1:10 p.m. Monmouth’s racing schedule was adjusted with programs dropped on four dates [June 1, June 7, June 14 and June 21] while two other dates were added [September 13 and 20].

Holborn Hanover [$5.40], the Meadowlands Pace winner in 2004, posted his first victory of this year in Saturday night’s seventh race. The five-year-old Cam’s Card Shark gelding, driven by George Brennan and trained by Mark Harder, pushed his career bankroll over the $1.3 million mark with that tally. He was one of Brennan’s four winners on the card. Brennan also clicked with Franco Sequel [$33.20] in the first race, Tarver Hanover [$7.40] in the fourth and Landmark Hall [$12.20] in the fifth.

The Top 10 money earners for Friday’s $106,100 Matt’s Scooter Final are Bonos Bests, Fox Valley Appeal, Cactus Creek, Menno Boy, Royal Man, Fox Valley Cruiser, Pownal Bay Matt, Ivegotwhatuneed, Real Mean Art and West Bound Train. The standings for the $137,120 Four Leaf Clover includes Pacific Renegade, Jenna’s Choice, Shu Hanover, Fate’s Place, Hop Sing, Silver Flash, Roddy’s Bags Again, Florida Boy, Sand Sax and two horses tied in tenth – Whodunit and Pokagon. If all the leading earners enter, the last spot will be determined by a draw.
