September 18, 2009,by Leon Zimmerman, for the New Jersey Sire Stakes
Aries Angel, taking advantage of her starting position at the rail, wired a field of 2-year-old pacing fillies to win the $50,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes Green Acres Final in a career best 1:56.1 today (September 18) at Freehold Raceway.
The homebred daughter of Western Ideal-Aries Conquest, driven by Andy Miller for owner-breeder Tanah Merah Farms of Springfield, IL, won by a neck over another Western Ideal filly, Skinny Dip. Finishing third was Sold Out, also by Western Ideal.
It was the third victory in four career starts for the Erv Miller-trained filly, whose earnings rose to $35,500 with the winner’s share of the purse. Her two previous victories were in NJSS Green Acres preliminary legs of the series for 2-year-old filly pacers.
