Arnie’s Angel wins feature at Tioga

Nichols, NY — Arnie’s Angel took the featured $7,800 fillies and mares pace at Tioga Downs on Friday (Aug. 13).

Landry Seelster (Wally Hennessey) went straight to the front and led to the first quarter in :28. She used a :29.4 second quarter to hit the half in :57.4. Arnie’s Angel ($5.30) made a first-over move from third down the backstretch. Landry Seelster held a short lead to three-quarters in 1:25.4.

As they reached the stretch No Where To Hide (Braxten Boyd) slipped through on the inside as Grant Me This (Renaldo Morales III) made it four across the track. Arnie’s Angel got the lead and held off the late charging Grant Me This to win in 1:54.1. No Where To Hide was third.

Arnie’s Angel is a 5-year-old mare by Big Jim. She is owned by Mali Norbye and trained by Randy Taft. It was her fifth win of the season and she now owns 11 career victories.

Wally Hennessey leads all drivers here with 109 wins. Braxten Boyd is second on the list with 56 victories. Mike Merton drove two winners and has reached the winner’s circle 47 times this season for third best. Jody Jamieson is fourth with 24 wins. Marcus Miller is fifth with 16 tallies.

Mike Deters has trained the most winners this season with 39 wins. Jim McDonald is second in wins with 23 tallies. Gaston Lareau is third with 19 victories. Patti Harmon (17) and Marc Major (15) round out the top five.
