Arthur R. Bash, 83, dies

Batavia, NY — Arthur R. Bash, 83, of Batavia, N.Y., died Feb. 13, 2010 at his winter residence in Lake Park, Fla.

He was born June 21, 1926, in Batavia, a son of the late Raymond and Florence Hendley Bash.

Mr. Bash was the owner of Art Bash Scrap Metal in Batavia for more than 40 years prior to his retirement. He was a World War II Navy veteran.

He was a former member of the St. Nicholas Social Club, Moose Club, Elks Lodge, Polish Falcons, Veness Strollo Post 1602 VFW, and the American Legion Glenn S. Loomis Post 332.

Mr. Bash bred and owned Standardbreds that raced in Western New York for many years. He owned the Clipnock farm and most of the horses he bred wore the Clipnock name. Tom Dufford was his trainer/driver.

He also enjoyed traveling, was an avid outsdoorsman and enjoyed all sports, especially the New York Yankees. He was recognized for his generosity to others in many ways and also sponsoring many bowling, baseball and soccer teams.

Mr. Bash is survived by his wife of 46 years, Dorothy; sons, Vincent Panzone and Edward (MaryAnn) Panzone; brother, William (Eileen); sister, Ada (Gordon) Hyde; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday (Feb. 18) at Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc., 329-333 West Main St., Batavia. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday (Feb. 19) at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Grand View Cemetery.
