Atomic Million AM back to winning ways

from the Quebec Jockey Club

Trois-Rivieres, PQ — He is only one of two horses that has won the Quebec-Bred Series at age 2, 3 and 4 and is now hopefully back to his winning ways at age 6 as Atomic Million AM heads the feature race at the Hippodrome 3R on Sunday (Oct. 15).

Atomic Million Am demonstrates his winning ways earlier this season.

Sired by Million Dollar Cam, trained by Alain Martin, who also bred and owns the gelding, Atomic Million AM starts from post seven in the eighth race Silver Invitational Pace. He will race as part of an entry for the Martin Stable with stablemate Beach Runner A M going from post two.

It was at age three that Atomic Million AM was at his best, winning 11 times, taking a record of 1:50.3 at Mohawk Raceway and earning over C$100,000. Then at age four he equaled his lifetime mark of 1:50.3, again at Mohawk and with five wins won over C$60,000.

But the hard miles have taken its toll on the good pacer as this season, Atomic Million AM has but two wins and earnings of only $10,000, but last week there was a return to his old ways upon returning to H3R with a strong seven and one-quarter length romp in 1:59.3.

Parked out first-over until the backstretch, Atomic Million AM then started to pull away from the field and opened up in the stretch like the Quebec champion he is.

Mario Charron will be in the sulky aboard Atomic Million AM and their chief rival in the race will be stablemate Beach Runner A M.

Now age 10, Beach Runner A M will be driven by Pierre Luc Roy and has raced mainly at Rideau Carleton this season. He has rarely missed a week of racing with 29 starts but only two wins, the fastest a 1:54.1 triumph months ago.

Another top older contender in the race, also age 10, is C$1,044,203 winner Code Word. This son of Western Terror has not started since the end of May for trainer Charles Gaudreault, but looks to be in prime shape, having won two qualifiers at H3R, the fastest on Oct. 1 in 1:58.3. He starts from post three for driver Simon Delisle.

Other contenders include Mister Big Top (post four), Brandons Bandit (post eight), who has won his last two starts, and the top mare, Rainbow Palace (post six).

And speaking of mares, Lucky Promesses, who has rattled off nine-straight wins at H3R this season, returns from Rideau Carleton in the seventh race trot. While at Rideau, Lucky Promesses was not so luck, finishing fourth and sixth in two outings.

She will start from post five for owner/breeder Jerome Lombart as the 4-year-old daughter of Lucky Fool seeks to return to her winning ways against return winner, R Rkadabra (post six), along with top contenders Dance Hall George (post four) and Artemis Duharas (seven).

First race post time Sunday is 12:30 pm. For a free race program, visit www.quebecjockeyclub.com.
