Audrey Phalen Cameron dies

Columbus, OH — Audrey Phalen Cameron, of Laflin, Pa., and formerly of Newmarket, N.H. and Pinehurst, N.C., died Oct. 25, 2012, in the inpatient unit of Hospice Community Care in Wilkes Barre.

Born in Northwood, N.H., she was a daughter of the late James and Mary (Park) Phalen. She was a graduate of Newmarket High School and helped operate a racing stable with her late husband, Dana Cameron. She was employed as program director at Pocono Downs for 20 years, retiring in 2000.

She was a lover of horses and enjoyed training them. She was also very proud of and enjoyed tending to her garden, cooking, knitting, sewing and playing cards with her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Judy Cameron; sister, Janet (Frank) Doherty; nephew, James Phalen; friends, Terri Phalen and Angie Spernoga; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dana, in 1961; sisters, Leona Batchelder, Beatrice Walker and Irene Grochmal; and brothers, Rodney and George Phalen.
