Avenir wins second straight, takes Philly feature

Chester, PA — After posting a 1:53.2 win in her division of the Continentalvictory on Hambletonian weekend, Avenir rolled to her second straight victory with a 1:54.3 score over good going in Friday afternoon’s (Aug. 20) $12,600 featured trot at Harrah’s Philadelphia.

Yannick Gingras, who won four races on the card, put the sophomore daughter of Muscle Hill and Chic Chick right on the lead and came home in :56.3 for trainer Ron Burke and the partnership of Burke Racing Stable LLC, Weaver Bruscemi LLC, Knox Services Inc. and J&T Silva-Purnel & Libby.

In the $11,200 fast-class pacing co-feature, George Napolitano Jr. got A Major Omen to close the gap behind a breakaway front flight, inherited the pocket on the far turn, and rallied up the inside to win in 1:51.1. A Major Omen, a gelded son of Art Major, has now won two straight for trainer Trish Adams and owner Thomas Maloney.

In Sunday’s (Aug. 22) $22,500 winners-over pacing feature, top mare Lyons Sentinel will take on “the boys,” and has drawn post five — the winningest starting spot at the riverside oval — in the six-horse field. Post time is 12:40 p.m.; program pages are available on the PHHA website.
