Back Door Man wins GLADA event at Northfield

Northfield, OH — Back Door Man and driver Floyd Rhodes emerged victorious in the overflow field that contested Friday’s (July 30) Great Lakes Amateur Drivers Association event at MGM Northfield Park.

Sent off as the 9-5 favorite from post three in the nine-horse field, Rhodes had little choice but to float Back Door Man away softly from the gate. They were ninth at the quarter as Marion Chupp and Curlys Son controlled the front. While Chupp turned back all challenges and continued on the lead, Rhodes was stuck in traffic but slowly moving forward. When his cover began to weaken, Rhodes moved Back Door Man three-deep approaching three-quarters — and that proved to be the winning move.

Once around the leaders, Back Door Man had plenty left in the tank as he zipped to the front around the final turn. He finished 1-1/4 lengths in front of Just Joe and Naquel Harvey in 1:58.4. Lion Image (Don Sherman) finished third.

Back Door Man, whom Rhodes also owns and trains, paid $5.60 to win.
