Bailey wins five at Vernon

Vernon, NY — Leading driver Leon Bailey is having a season even his late grandfather, Vernon legend, Jack “The Ripper” Bailey would be proud of.  Bailey added five more wins at Vernon Downs on Saturday (July 10).

Coming into the season the most wins Bailey got in a season was 53.  With his five wins on Saturday, he now has 54 in 2021.  That is in less than half a season.  He registered his wins with Cool Jack ($11.00), Discus Hanover ($9.90), Hotfoot Hannah ($10.20), Bruce’s Magic ($9.60), and Syracuse Express ($3.20).

Arrival (Leon Bailey) took the lead to the first quarter in :26.3.  Peggy J (Chris Long) then took control as they reached the backstretch.  She led to the half in :55.2.  As they went around the final turn Jericho Diva (Justin Huckabone) came first-up to challenge for the lead.  Peggy J continued to lead to three-quarters in 1:23.4.

As they made the turn for home Peggy J shook off Jericho Diva.  That’s Incredible (($3.70) made her move going three-wide in mid-stretch.  She blew right by to win in a lifetime best of 1:52.0.  Peggy J had to settle for second.  Dojea Gigi (Brad Irvine) was third best.
