Bailey wins four at Vernon

Vernon, NY — Leon Bailey continues to dominate at Vernon Downs this season as he drove four winners including the co-features on Saturday (Aug. 21).

Warrawee Unique ($2.70) got the lead and hit the first quarter first in :26.  He used a :29.4 second quarter to get to the half first in :55.4.  Calvin B (Justin Huckabone) was the first to make a move going first-over around the far turn.  Warrawee Unique led to three-quarters 1:24.3.

As they made the turn for home Calvin B fell out of it as Warrawee Unique turned on the afterburners and sailed to an easy win in 1:51.1.  Star Commander N (Jimmy Whittemore) came up to finish second.  Luck N Roll K (Luke Hanners) was third best.

Warrawee Unique is a 5-year-old gelding by Sweet Lou.  He is owned by Betcha Win Stable LLC and trained by Jeff Sorenson.  It was his fifth win this season.  He now has 13 career victories.

Discus Hanover (Bailey) captured the $7,000 Open Trot.

Discus Hanover ($4.90) went to the lead and was first to the quarter in :27.  Majestic Sunset (Ben McNeil) came first-over and they raced side by side as they reached the backstretch.  Majestic Sunset took control and led to the half in :56.2.  As they went around the far turn Discus Hanover popped the pocket and attempted to re-take the lead.  Majestic Sunset had a short lead to three-quarters in 1:25.1.

As they reached the stretch Discus Hanover was back in front and fought off the gritty second-place finisher, Majestic Sunset and the late-charging third pace finisher Credit List (Justin Huckabone), to win in 1:54.0.

Discus Hanover is a 4-year-old gelding by Credit Winner.  He is owned by Phillip Hale and trainer David Dewhurst.  It was his eighth win this season and 24th career victory.

Bailey teamed up with Sorenson for another win with Tragically Hep ($3.10).  Bailey got his other win with Major Steel ($4.00).  Sorenson had three training wins on the card.  He trained and drove Golden Gun ($9.70) for his other victory.
