Barn Hall and Sheer Talent win features at Vernon Downs

Vernon, NY – Barn Hall (Claude Huckabone Jr.) and Sheer Talent (Steeven Genois) each took co-features at Vernon Downs on Friday (July 23).

Barn Hall ($4.30) destroys field in the $5,000 trot.

Barn Hall zoomed straight to the front and never looked back.  He went to the first quarter first in :28.  A :29.1 second quarter gave him a :57.1 half.  As they went around the far turn, Barn Hall gave them all the slip.  He led to three-quarters in 1:25.4.

As they made the turn for home, he was in another zip code.  He cruised to a new lifetime best mark of 1:55.1.  The battle for second went to the late charging Eternal Prince (Justin Huckabone).  Some Royalty (Jimmy Whittemore) finished third.

Barn Hall is a 3-year-old colt by Conway Hall.  He is owned by trainer Steven Pratt along with Purple Haze Stables, Out In The Country Stable and Nancy Pratt.  It was his second win this season and sixth career victory.

Sheer Talent ($7.30) hangs on to capture the $5,000 fillies & mares pace.

Sheer Talent went straight to the front and led to the first quarter in :27.  She used a :29.3 second quarter to hit the half in :56.3.  W C Kenzie Cookie (Hackabone) came-first-over as Sheer Talent hit three-quarters first in 1:25.3.

As they reached the stretch, Jackie’s Express (Leon Bailey) squeezed through on the inside as W C Kenzie Cookie kept charging on the outside.  Sheer Talent dug in and held off second-place finisher W C Kenzie Cookie to win in 1:53.4.  Jackie’s Express hung on to finish third.

Sheer Talent is a 7-year-old mare by Badlands Hanover.  She is owned by Bill Reepmeyer and trained by Bruce Lauer.  She has five wins in 2021.  She owns 27 career victories.

Vernon Downs returns to live racing on Saturday (July 24) with a 10-race card.  Post time is 6:10 p.m.
