Columbus, OH — Ohio racing fans witnessed the debut of some of the Buckeye State’s finest stars on Friday night (July 9), as eight $40,000 divisions of Ohio Sires Stakes were contested for 2-year-old trotting colts and fillies.  As well, trainer Chris Beaver captured five of the eight OSS events.

As expected, the 3-5 Caviar Gold (Triumphant Caviar-Gee O’keeffe) smoked his rivals in the first OSS division for freshman trotters, and his first career start, trotting to a 1:58.3 triumph with Bret Miller driving for trainer Chris Beaver.  The son of Triumphant Caviar finished 1-1/4 lengths ahead of 7-1 Guido Di (Brady Brown) with 10-1 Desperado Hall (Ronnie Wrenn, Jr.) notching third. Caviar Gold is owned by Chris Beaver, Bill Manes, Leo Fleming, and Steve Zeehandelar and now has $20,000 in career earnings.  This homebred is the third foal out of the Holiday Road mare Gee O’Keeffe 3, 1:55.2h ($90,487) and is a half-brother to the gelding My Pal Sparky (by Uncle Peter), 3, 1:59f ($13,817).

In the second OSS division for trotting youngsters, Go Long (Long Tom-Nickie K) lit up the tote board at 84-1 odds, paying $171 to win on a two-dollar ticket.  Driven by Don Irvine, Jr., for trainer Garry Martin, notched his first career triumph in a big way, coming up the passing lane in the final yards to score in 1:58.1, besting 14-1 rival What In Sam Hill (Brady Brown), with 3-5 favorite Bambo (Dan Noble) grabbing third.  Go Long is a son of Long Tom bred by Melvin Detweiler and owned by Gary Martin and Kleinberg Racing. He is the second foal out of the Ilooklikemymom mare Nickie K 8, 1:54.4f ($273,415), and a half brother to Susiek (by Climb Higher) 3, 2:03.4h ($18,446).

Gabby’s Bit Coin (Uncle Peter-Gabbysloosechange) made his debut a winning one, scoring in 1:59 with Ronnie Wrenn, Jr., at the lines at odds of 14-1 in the third OSS division for freshmen trotting colts. The homebred son of Uncle Peter is conditioned and co-owned by Chris Beaver along with Johanna Beaver. No Edge Lines, the 6-5 favorite was second for Kayne Kauffman, while 13-1 Rose Run Extra nailed down third-place money for Chris Page. Gabby’s Bit Coin is the first foal out of the Triumphant Caviar mare Gabbysloosechange 3, 1:54.4h ($186,585).

Capturing the final OSS division for 2-year-old trotters was 2-5 favorite Chulo (What The Hill-Chulo), who posted a 1:58.3 dramatic clocking for driver Ronnie Wrenn, Jr., in a near blanket finish.  The striking What The Blaze was second for Danny Noble at 13-1 odds, while 7-2 Slim Jimmy (Anthony MacDonald) was third.  The son of What The Hill is conditioned by Per Engblom for Buckstone Land Livestock of York, PA and had previously captured the $150,000 Next Generation Trot at Scioto on July 2 in 1:57. Bred by Renee Spahr, Chulo is the first foal out of the Majestic Son mare Chula 4, 1:55.4f ($35,506).

Capturing the first OSS division for filly trotters was 5-1 Gabby’s C Note (Triumphant Caviar-Gabby’s Creditcard), conditioned and co-owned by Chris Beaver and Johanna Beaver and Steve Zeehandelar.  This homebred lass stopped the clock in 1:58.1 with a perfect steer by Brett Miller in her pari-mutuel debut, besting rivals 27-1 Lovely Liv (Chris Lems) and 70-1 Abbey D (Shawn Barker II).  Gabby’s C Note is the third of five foals out of the Credit Winner mare Gabby’s Creditcard 4, 1:58h ($135,694) and has full siblings in Gabbysloosechange 3, 1:54.4h ($186,585) and Gabby’s Wild Child 4, 1:56.2f ($56,347).

The second OSS filly division went to 3-1 Caviar Roxie Due (Triumphant Caviar-Rose Run Roxann), whose steady gait earned her first prize in 1:58.4, with Aaron Merriman at the lines for trainer Chris Beaver.  This daughter of Triumphant Caviar was making her first career start for trainer-owner Beaver, Steve Zeehandelar, Tim Homan, and VIP Internet Stable. Bred by Dublin Valley Farms, Caviar Roxie Due bested 12-1 Kirsi Dream (Mike Wilder) and 6-1 Canterawishing (Brett Miller) easily. Caviar Roxie Due is the second and most prolific foal out of the Kadabra mare Rose Run Roxann ($4,182).

Aaron Merriman steered 7-2 Stephanie Hill (What The Hill-I Like Stephanie) to a 2:00.4 victory in the third OSS filly division, giving trainer Chris Beaver his fifth OSS victory of the night.  The daughter by What The Hill used the passing lane to get up in time and best 1-2 favorite Be My Baby Now (Chris Page), while 9-2 Ivory Road (Mike Wilder) nailed down third place honors. Bred by Double Spring Farm, Stephanie Hill is owned by Chris Beaver and Moger-Delia Racing and is the ninth foal out of the broodmare I Like Stephanie 3, 1:56f ($205,610). She is a half-sister to: Cold Certified (by Kadabra) 5, 1:54.1s ($464,237); Magical Steph (by Kadabra) 3, 1:55.3s ($112,782); I Like Purple (by Dejarmbro) 3, 1:57.2f ($86,698); and I Like My Kaddy (by Kadabra) 3, 1:55.1s ($61,406), etc.

Martysmagicmoment, the 4-1 choice, led at every step in the final OSS event for 2-yer-old trotting fillies, clocked in 1:58.3 for driver Ray Paver in her first career victory.  The brown daughter by Creatine is trained by Danny Collins for owners Marty McLain, Charles McLain and Harry Burger and now has $32,400 in career earnings.  Marge At Large, the 7-2 choice was second for Aaron Merriman, while 3-2 favorite I’ll Annie Up was third for Chris Page.  Martysmagicmoment is the third and most prolific foal out of the BJ’s Mac mare Trot To The Macs p, 5, 1:53.4f ($47,370).

Ohio Sires Stakes continue Saturday (July 10) with nine, $40,000 divisions for 2-year-old pacing colts and fillies at Northfield Park.
