Beckwith to cap big Holiday weekend at Plainridge

PLAINVILLE, MA – New England’s most important race of the season, the $50,000 Bert Beckwith Memorial Pace will be the highlight of a full weekend of fun and activity slated for Labor Day weekend at Plainridge Racecourse.

The 10th edition of the Beckwith will be the featured event Labor Day card that begins at 1 p.m. Previous winners of the Beckwith include Village Jiffy, Carlspur, again entered for the fourth time in the race as well as two-time winners Riyadh and Space Shuttle.

Prior to the Labor Day card, Plainridge will host its annual induction to its New England Harness Racing Wall of Fame. Veteran trainer-driver Willard Beckwith will be this year’s addition to the display.

The holiday weekend of activity will kick off on Saturday afternoon when the track hosts its annual Family Day. There will be an entire day of family fun and activity for all ages. There will be free golf putting and chipping contests, children’s games and contests, jump houses, pony rides and sulky rides as well as a live disc jockey from 2-5 p.m.

In addition there will be a 10-mile professional bicycle race around the Plainridge oval.

In the evening, Plainridge will again host the Classic Car Cruise will hundreds of classic cars and oldies music.

Located on U.S. Route One in Plainville, MA, Plainridge Racecourse is located between Boston and Providence RI.
