Beltrami and Adamczyk win amateur races at Monticello

Monticello, NY — The amateur drivers were back at Monticello Wednesday afternoon (Nov. 11).

The GSY amateur race featured seven pacers and another race where there was a speed duel. Urbana Bayama (Philip Sowers) left from the rail along with Northern Assassin A (Christopher Petrelli) from his six post, and hooked up over the Monticello oval in :27.2 and a demanding :56.2 half-mile.

This set it up for the closers to come calling and that is indeed what they did. Longshot Crookshanks (Tony Beltrami) pulled before the half-mile stanza and made a bold three wide move to the front before the three-quarter pole. He was able to sustain his momentum en route to a two length victory at odds of 52-1. The heavy favorite, Roland N Rock (Miguel Alejo-Hernandez), was only able to garner a second place finish and Carolina Magic (Marianna Monaco) picked up the show dough. The mile went in 1:57.2.

Crookshanks paid a handsome $107.50 for all his $2 win backers. This 4-year-old gelding is by Pet Rock, trained by Williams Hernandez and owned by Ronald Rettig-Zucchi.

In the Catskill Amateur pacing event, Andrew Adamczyk took his heavy favorite Blacktree to the lead and coasted home to a 2-1/4 length victory in 2:00.1. Chance To See (Marianna Monaco) ended up in second and longshot Quick Art (Alexandria Chadbourne) finished third.

This 9-year-old gelding is owned, trained and driven by Adamczyk.

The GSY Series will be set for this Friday night at The Meadowlands. The first post is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
