Beltrami, Offenberg win Saturday AHDC events at Freehold

Freehold, NJ — Dark Pool and Foxy Trottin Stick emerged victorious in their respective $9,000 American Harness Drivers Club Trotting Series events on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 3) at Freehold Raceway.

In the first division, Dark Pool, driven by Tony Beltrami, got away slowly from post seven and picked up live cover behind Fiji (driven by David Offenberg) as Call Me Thefireman (Tony Verruso) rated a 1:00 half. Nearing the top of the lane, Beltrami fanned Dark Pool three-wide, and they rallied to beat Verruso’s charge by 1-1/4 lengths in 2:02. My Big Kadillac (Mike Polansky) finished third.

Beltrami shares ownership of Dark Pool, who paid $8.20 to win, with trainer Paul Fusco.

In the second division, David Offenberg and Foxy Trottin Stick got away slowly, landing in fifth through a :28.4 quarter as Winneress (Verruso) and Jekyil N Hyde (Nicole DiCostanzo) disputed the lead. Jekyil N Hyde worked to clear the lead before the :59.3 half, but faded after being headed by the first-over Shoemaker Hanover (John Calabrese) past three-quarters in 1:29.1. Meanwhile, Offenberg had moved Foxy Trottin Stick second-over to follow Shoemaker Hanover and surge to a 2-3/4-length victory in 1:59.2. J A T O (Beltrami) rallied from third-over cover to nab Shoemaker Hanover for second money.

Offenberg owns the Eric Abbatiello-trained Foxy Trottin Stick, who paid $9.60 to win.
