Big day for Untersteiner in Sweden

What a day 53-year-old Austrian born Peter Untersteiner, trainer at the Halmstad Track in Southern Sweden, had Sunday afternoon (July 20) at Axevalla. He posted six wins on the day, including the Stochampionat, Sweden’s finest race for 4-year-old mares.

Johann and Peter Untersteiner were a happy team on Sunday.

Though Peter Untersteiner not was in the bike behind the winner of the Stochampionat, Neona Princess, he couldn’t have been happier, as it was his son, 29-year old Johann Untersteiner, who drove the mare to victory.

Peter Untersteiner had qualified two mares to the final and choose to drive Nissan Broline, who went off stride going around the first bend.

Johan Untersteiner, who has made a name for himself as a top driver, guided Neona Princess to the lead and stayed on to win the 1-5/8th mile event very easily in 1:58.3f (mile rate).

The purse for the winner was $145,000.

Neona Princess was sired by Gigant Neo (he by Super Arnie) and out of a mare sied by J R Broline (Speedy Somolli).

Between the five other wins on the day for the Untersteiner Stable was the consolation, which Peter Untersteiner won with Perfect Cash, sired by Ready Cash.

In Finland, the mile event, Sct Michels Race at Mikkeli, was won by the Swedish trotter Reven d’Amour (sired by Revenvue S). driven by Mika Forss in 1:53.4f.

The purse for the winner was $95,000.
