Birney stable rolls with four wins on Sunday night card at Rosecroft

Ft. Washington, MD — Trainer Howard Birney scored four wins on Sunday night (March 15) at Rosecroft and the stable’s rising star Wheres My Money won his fourth straight race.

The 4-year-old son of Somebeachsomewhere is now 4-for-8 on the season and has been on the board in seven of eight starts. The only time he didn’t hit the board was an unlucky, but necessary disqualification after finishing second. The closer returned a handsome $18.40 for his backers. Allan Davis has been the regular pilot all season for Birney who also owns the gelding who started the year 1-for-25 for his career.

Davis and Birney combined for a victory with P L Hoofhearted, who started the year 0-6, but dropped down to the bottom level condition and scored a half-length victory in 1:53.2.

Davis’ three bagger on the night also included the 40th career win for Last Shot Leeton ($16) for owner-trainer Eli Scott Jr.

Thetruthaboutdavid ($30.80) was an even bigger pari-mutuel shocker from the Birney barn, as he pulled a 14-1 upset despite being parked the entire mile for driver Roger Plante Jr.

Plante also posed with Rock King Deo ($6.40) for Birney in the winners’ circle, snapping a long losing streak in 1:56.1.

Eddie Davis Jr., won the $11,000 Open Handicap in 1:52 with favorite American Rock ($6.80) for trainer Janet Davis and owners Stephen Zajchowski Jr. and David and Christine Thibault.

Sean Bier continued his red hot driving, winning three more races after a four-win night on Wednesday. Bier escorted Steller City ($6.60) to the winner’s circle, snapping his two year losing streak and he has now posted a win, second and a fourth in the Greg Trotto barn for owner Kevin Shaplin.

Bier won a high level conditioned event for pacers with Drinkin Again ($4.40), who dropped from the Open Handicap level and won from post seven in 1:52.4. Philip Jasper owns and bred the winner for trainer Joseph Eisenhower Sr.

Bier also rallied Rusty’s Houdini ($12.80) from off the pace to a blow out win in 1:53.4 for breeder-owner Andrew Scheller and trainer Jerry Nock.

Driver John Wagner continues to freshen up his barn as new shooter Star Of Terror ($4.20) won his debut for trainer Arlene Cameron in 1:54.4. Wagner also won with Talking Blues ($8.60) who now has two wins, two seconds and a third in his last five starts. Will Reynolds trains the 10-year-old Rocknroll Hanover gelding who won for the 37th time in his career edging out pacesetter White Rolls by a neck in 1:52.1.

Russell Foster guided Mittnite Delight ($4.20) to his third straight win for James and Roberta Eveland in 1:54.1. Kim Vincent won a conditioned event with Precision Bluechip ($6.00) for owner-trainer James Whalen Jr., and 19-year-old Luke Hanners won his third race of the meet taking Concert Artist ($11.80) to the winner’s circle for owner-trainer Brian Tomlinson in 1:54.2.
