Blooded Horse Fall Sale is strongest in seven years

by Dot Morgan, for the Blooded Horse Sale

Delaware, OH — Buyers from 25 states, several Canadian provinces, and Europe rolled into Delaware, Ohio, for the 64th annual fall sale. The 1,226 horse catalogue featured a wide variety of green prospects, young racehorses, seasoned campaigners, broodmares, weanlings, and yearlings. However, it was the bidding wars for Ohio bred yearlings that had the crowd buzzing.

Ohio pacing sire Feelin Friskie dominated that category with eight yearlings selling between $15,000–$29,000. All were consigned by Midland Acres except one from Spring Haven Farm.

Jim Arledge, Jr. purchased the sale topper, Chief Friskie, a colt out of the $295,000 winning mare Sand Squaw, for $29,000.

The Nobleland Sams were led by a colt out of the No Nukes mare Aztec Tumble p,2,1:54.3 with a $17,000 bid from Gerald Denney.

Master Lavec led the trotting sires with a filly out of the Final Score mare Secrets garnering a $20,000 bid from Ben Black. Trotting sire Victory Sam was well represented by a filly from the Striking Sahbra mare Tiffany Opal who went to Andrew Hershberger for $16,000.

Four of the five top selling racehorses were young trotters. Jerry Graham’s pair of 3-year-old Powerful Emotion geldings, Powerful Tom and Powerful Position, brought $28,000 and $21,000, respectively. Mike Conklin, agent, purchased Powerful Tom who recently finished second in the $100,000 Su Mac Lad trot. Scott Renz got the nod on his stablemate.

The gorgeous unraced 2-year-old All In Hall, a half brother to Andover Hall, Conway Hall, and Angus Hall, was purchased by John Neuhart for $24,000.

Michael Polansky got the ticket on the 4-year-old Angus Hall son Diamond Tough for $22,000.

The lone pacer in the top five was Eyes Only For You p,2,1:56f at $23,000 from Metropolitan’s first crop.

Pan Hanover p,2,1:53.4 ($213,567) led the broodmares at $15,000. Midland Acres got the nod for the Artsplace daughter who is in foal to Indiana sire Rockin Image.

Perhaps the most interesting matron was 9-year-old Ashlee’s Girl, an Artsplace half sister to Betterthancheddar, purchased by Billy Walters for $12,000. Already the producer of a 1:53 2-year-old, the mare is currently not in foal.
