Bob “Rocky” DePaul, 86, dies

Vernon, NY — Bob “Rocky” DePaul, 86, died Nov. 5, 2014, in the nearby Oneida Healthcare Center.

He was born on Dec. 26, 1927, in Utica, N.Y., a son of the late Leonard A. and Antonia (Tallerico) DePaul, and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy.

From 1946-1950, he proudly served his country while on active duty with the U.S. Navy. On Oct. 11, 1952, Bob and Angelina Caracane were united in marriage in St. Anthony’s Church of Herkimer, and the couple shared a loving union of 62 years together.

Prior to his retirement in 1982, Mr. DePaul was employed with the Utica Observer-Dispatch newspaper as a district manager. He later went on to train harness horses at Vernon Downs, where he was a member of the United States Trotting Association and the Harness Horse Association of CNY.

He is survived by his wife, Angie; children, Deborah (Delbert) Richards, Robin, Lenny (Ellie) and Matthew (Jacqueline); 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Family and friends are invited to call on Friday (Nov. 7) from 4-7 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home, Inc., 464 Sherrill Rd., Sherrill. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday (Nov. 8) at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, Peterboro Street, Vernon. Burial with military honors will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Rt. 5, Vernon, N.Y.
