After two warm-ups prior to the Grand Prix de Bretagne on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 19) at Vincennes in Paris, France, French Triple Crown winner, Bold Eagle, had to be scratched from the race. The 7-year-old stallion still exhibited signs of lameness in his left front hoof after battling an abscess.

Valko Jenilat captures the Grand Prix de Bretagne and qualifies for the 2018 edition of the Prix d’Amerique.

Sebastian Guarato, his trainer, still managed to enter the winner’s circle as Bold Eagle’s stablemate 8-year-old Valko Jenilat won the contest by a half-length.

Driven by Eric Raffin, Valko Jenilat was in command for most of the trip. He was followed home by another member of his shed row in the mare, Billie de Montfort, driven by David Thomain. Charley du Noyer with Yoann Lebourgeous in the bike was in third.

All three horses have now qualified for the Grand Prix d’Amerique in Jan.

Bold Eagle will return to action in the next qualification race, The Grand Prix du Bourbannais, on Dec. 10 at Vincennes.
