Bold Eagle wins fourth Prix Rene Balliere

Vincennes, FR — Bold Eagle driven by Bjorn Goop won the Prestigious Prix Rene Balliere – a Group 1-race at Vincennes Sunday afternoon (June 23) for the fourth time in a row.

Bold Eagle became the first horse to win the Prix Rene Balliere four times in Vincennes. Gerard Forni Photo.

Bold Eagle became the first trotter ever to accomplish this feat.  From post position one, Bold Eagle was able to take charge as the gate left the field. Shortly after the start Dijon driven by Romain Derioux went off stride and was disqualified and placed last.

Though Bold Eagle had a tremendous record in this race, he was only the second favorite in the betting.

The peoples choice was Norwegian trotter Looking Superb with Jean Michel Bazire, also went off stride shortly after the start, but Bazire managed to get him back in trot very quick.

With 5/8 mile to go Looking Superb came up outside Bold Eagle and going around the last corner and down the stretch, the battle was on.

Though Goop couldn’t pull the earplugs on Bold Eagle, he managed to get the horse first past the post to win in 1:53 (mile rate) followed by Looking Superb.

Bold Eagle will race again on July 7th at La Capelle in Normandy, then August the 10th in Aby, Sweden and from there he will go to the Breeders Crown in Canada on October the 25th.
