Bonnie Zubrod, 89, dies

Lexington, KY — Bonnie Jean Zubrod, 89, of Louisville, Ky., passed away with her family by her side Sept. 28, 2017.

Her son, Art, manages Brittany Farms.

She was a native of Louisville, daughter of the late Marvin and Gladys Tuggle. She was a graduate of the Louisville Girls School and attended the University of Louisville.

Mrs. Zubrod was a pioneer as a woman in the Saddlebred industry in Louisville and became a Hall of Famer of the United Professional Horsemen’s Association. She opened Zubrod Stables, where she was a trainer and instructor. Her daughter Cindy continues to run Zubrod Stables today, along with her two granddaughters, Deveau and Renee.

She is survived by her son, Arthur Bell Zubrod III (Leah D. Cheverie); daughter, Mary Cynthia Zubrod Boel; granddaughters, Deveau Zubrod (Michael Kretizer) and Renee (J. R.) Philpott; and great-grandchildren, Campbell Ream Kretizer, Rhodes Bell Kreitzer and Evelyn Reid Philpott. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Arthur Bell Zubrod Jr.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday (Oct. 2) at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 3345 Lexington Road, with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-7 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 1) at Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road, in the “St. Matthews” area of Louisville.
