Boyd Lee “Pops” Hudson Sr., 73, dies

Columbus, OH — Boyd Lee “Pops” Hudson Sr., 73, of Marcus Hook, Pa., died July 3, 2015.

Mr. Hudson was born Nov. 23, 1941, in Bennettsville, S.C., to the late William Boyd Gerald and the late Mary Alice Hudson. He was raised in Latta, S.C., before moving to Delaware County in 1965.

After serving his country in the Army and National Guard, Mr. Hudson established his own business in the roofing and siding industry, Boyd L. Hudson Roofing, from which he retired in 1999.

He was a passionate horseman who spent his retirement training Standardbreds, traveling around the harness racing circuit and, recently, could often be found at Harrah’s Philadelphia.

Mr. Hudson was loved by all who knew him and could always put a smile on your face with a joke or a funny story. He was a hardworking, dependable man who loved military and American history, good food and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his children, Cindy (Mike) Hrisko, Robyn (Eric) Crile, Christie (Gus), Boyd Jr. (Korin) and Jillian (Bob) Hughes; their mother, his former wife, Millie “Rene” Burke Hudson; grandchildren, Erica, Brittany, Michael, Joshua, Matthew, Eric, Madison, Zachary, Alexis, Kayla, Jackson and McKinley; best friend and brother, Roy; brother, Francis Gerald; sister, Patricia Sandhu; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

His funeral service will be celebrated on Thursday (July 9) at 11 a.m. at the Joseph A. Ward Funeral Home, 1459 Market St., Linwood, PA. Friends and family are invited to call on Wednesday evening (July 8) from 6-8 p.m. and again on Thursday morning from 10-11 a.m. Burial will follow in Lawn Croft Cemetery.
