Breeders Crown Food Drive begins November 21

East Rutherford, NJ — The Meadowlands and Hambletonian Society have once again joined with Kings Super Markets to collect food items for the Community FoodBank of New Jersey.

The promotion will run during the Breeders Crown Championships, November 21-November 29. Any guest bringing a non-perishable food item for live or simulcast racing during that time period will receive free admission.

Kings Super Markets has long supported the Community FoodBank of NJ, the largest food bank in the state. The chain of upscale supermarkets has been a sponsor of the Breeders Crown and Hambletonian events at the Meadowlands since 2003. Kings Super Markets supports racing’s premier stakes events with in-store posters, circulars and bag stuffers. More than 5,000 pounds of food have been collected through the Hambletonian and Breeders Crown Food Drives over the past five years.

Collection boxes will be available at all entrances at the Meadowlands Racetrack and throughout the Meadowlands Sports Complex.

With bare shelves and demand for food among state residents far outpacing supply, the FoodBank is in danger of being unable to meet the needs of New Jersey’s hungry. The most needed items are grains and cereals, pasta, oatmeal, canned meats, peanut butter and canned fruits and vegetables. To contact the FoodBank, call (908) 355-3663 or visit www.njfoodbank.org.

The 2008 Holiday Harness Meet at the Meadowlands runs from Friday, November 21 through Saturday, December 27. Post time is 7:00 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday. The track will be dark November 23-27 and December 21-25 and 28-31. The 2009 Harness Meet begins Thursday, January 1.
