Breeze Away B sets Maryland Sire Stakes record

Berlin, MD — Ocean Downs hosted four Maryland Sire Stake preliminaries on Thursday (July 30).

The first division for 3-year-old trotting colts and geldings opened the card. Richard Hans is the owner, trainer and breeder of Yall Beneath Me.

I’d Be Rich (Rusty’s For Real) and Fire Me Up (Rusty’s All In) contested a fierce battle in the last quarter of the first split for sophomore pacing fillies with I’d Be Rich squeezing out a half-length victory in the 1:58.1 mile. Corey Callahan was in the bike, his brother Shaun is the trainer and their dad Nick Callahan is the owner and breeder. I’d Be Rich remained undefeated in 2020 with four wins.

In race three, the remaining division for trotting colts and geldings, Chris Offutt sent Justrestingmyeyes (Up Front Ben) wire-to-wire in 2:02. Jared’s A Lock (Lockkeeper) took the place spot. Leon Harris is the trainer and co-owner of Justrestingmyeyes. He shares ownership with Elwood Tignor and Alvin Parkes is the breeder.

In the second pacing filly division, reinsman Allan Davis sat Breeze Away B (Nuclear Breeze) in the three hole until the half, then they pulled first over, blowing away the field. The pair tripped the timer 14-1/4 lengths ahead in a MDSS record setting 1:54 mile. Hillbilly Kisses (Rusty’s For Real) was up for place. William B. Fletcher, 91, is the owner, trainer and breeder of Breeze Away B.
