Brioni trotted the fastest mile in Europe this year on Saturday (1:52.1).

Brioni, who is trained and driven by Joachim Lövgren, has struggled to find the same form as he had last year when he won and elimination and final of The Olympic Trot in April. But just in time for the big race next Sunday he returned to form yesterday winning at Gävle.

However, Brioni was not the most impressive trotter in the race, as Caballion and driver Fredrik B. Larsson were going to win, but went off stride 100 yards before the finish line and were disqualified and placed last. Despite the disqualification Caballion got an invitation to race in the Elitlopp.

Later today the draw will take place for the two eliminations from which the four first finishers in each will advance to the final.

Here are the 16 invited trotters:

Caballion
Classic Grand Cru
Commander Crowe
Dileva Käll
Iceland
Orecchietti
