BT’s Breeze scores in Maryland Sires Stakes at Rosecroft

by Pete Medhurst, for Rosecroft Raceway

Ft. Washington, MD — A new shooter to the 2018 Maryland Sires Stakes series took down one of the older standing records Wednesday night (May 23) at Rosecroft Raceway.

BT’s Breeze was a non-factor in 2017, racing just four times, with two third-place finishes, compiling just $1,728. This year has been a different story for owner Bryan Truitt Jr.

The homebred of trainer Bryan Truitt, the son of Nuclear Breeze has been a different horse over the past two months. Wednesday night, Victor Kirby the sent the gelding to the front for the first time and he handled every call in :26.4, :55.2, and 1:23.1 and tying Shimmering Joseph’s 2001 record in 1:51.2. Ronnie’s Rocket (John Wagner) followed the whole way and just watched the winner draw away by just short of seven lengths, unhurried by Kirby. Tom’s Titanium (Jason Green) was third.

Allie’s Finale, last year’s division champion for trainer Steve LeBlanc, was also impressive, taking advantage of a Bo Breeze, Lloyd’s All In speed duel. Roger Plante sent the son of Allie’s Western blowing by down the backside to score an easy 1:52.4 lifetime best. E-Z Pass B (Russell Foster) was second, while Tom’s Tyrannosaurus (Art Stafford Jr.) was third. LeBlanc, Count De Money Stable, William Lutz and James Stuart own the winner who is nine-for-13 lifetime.

In two non-betting Sires Stakes events Corey Callahan won with Gaagaa Gone in a 3-year old filly trotting division, tying Holy Trout for the fastest Sires Stakes winner in the program’s history in 1:57. Callahan owns and bred the winner, trained by his brother Shaun.

Diamond’s Credit picked up her first lifetime win in 2:00.4 for LeBlanc and Plante and owner-breeder Calvin Lasher.

Plante had three wins on the night, giving Lucky Mass his first win of the year for Kenneth and Charles Tisa.

Kirby picked up his second win of the night, winning the Mares Open in 1:53.3 with Mischief Maker N. The daughter of Jereme’s Jet held off fast closing Hold It Hanover (Foster) and Breadcrumb Income (Brian Burton).
