Buckeye Fair Racing Consortium awards scholarships

Washington Court House, OH — The third annual Buckeye Fair Racing Consortium scholarship was a tight race for the $5,500 available in 2021. The presiding judges, Ann and Ray Lufkin, not only looked each application over carefully, but also bumped the pot with a generous donation stating that they saw lots of good ideas from some great kids.

Finishing in first place was Aubrey Schwartz, daughter of Bret and Robin Schwartz of Washington Court House, Ohio. Aubrey attends Wilmington College and studies agriculture and education.

Brett and Brooke Sugg took the place and show monies, respectively. They are the son and daughter of Duke and Lisa Sugg. Brett is studying pharmacy at the University of Toledo and Brooke is a senior at Bowling Green studying dietetics.

The funds for the scholarship come each year from the very popular “three fair bonus program” which the Consortium has been offering since 2016.

A key part of the scholarship application is the requirement for the student to provide at least one idea for the improvement or enhancement of Ohio county fair harness racing for the future.

Congratulations to all of our 2021 scholarship recipients and special thanks to Ann and Ray Lufkin for their continued support of the program.
