Busy weekend at Tioga Downs

Nichols, NY — Tioga Downs will host 11 races on Friday, May 25, 10 races on Saturday, May 26, and 10 races on Sunday, May 27.

Keystone Celeste will look for her third straight win at Tioga Downs in the Southern Tier Trot for 3-year-old fillies on Friday. She is owned, trained, and driven by Todd Schadel. Combining both of her victories so far in Nichols, New York, she has won by more than 11 lengths, taking a new lifetime mark in her first start of 1:57.4.

Alexi Killean will look to win her third straight at the third different racetrack she has visited in New York for trainer Nat Varty, also on Friday.

The 5-year-old daughter of Run The Table was a convincing winner in the Fillies & Mares Preferred last week at Monticello in 1:56.1, piloted by Greg Grismore. The week before, Alexi Killean was a front end winner in the Fillies & Mares Preferred at Yonkers Raceway in 1:53.2, with Tim Tetrick in the bike. She has been slated as the 5-2 morning line favorite with Josh Marks in the bike.

American Lane and Sand Prince will square off on Saturday night in the third leg of the Tioga Throwdown Trotting Series. Sand Prince won last week in the second division, trotting to a new track record for older gelding trotters in 1:55.3.

American Lane comes in off of a third place finish in a leg of the Hiram Woodruff Series at The Meadowlands. Mark Capone trains the 5-year-old son of Primrose Lane, while Ray Scnittker gets the driving assignment from post position 10.

Buffalo specialist Michael Scores will make the trip to Tioga on Sunday afternoon to take on a full field of Open Pacers in the $15,000 Open Handicap. He will be joined by the likes of Top Flight, Tyler’s Echo N, American Fury, Kyrios N, Winfall Nasty, Tuffofthetoughest, Mr Delite, and Mata Harry in the eighth race.

This Sunday will also feature the two finals of the Empire Breeders Classic for New York bred 3-year-old pacers. Kenneth J will make his second start of the season and look to be crowned Empire Breeders Classic Champ for owner Ken Jacobs and trainer Linda Toscano.

Top trotting star Vivid Photo will make his second qualifying start at Tioga Downs for co-owner, trainer, and driver Roger Hammer on Friday, May 25, at 11:00 a.m. The 5-year-old son of S J’s Photo qualified last Friday at Tioga Downs in 1:58.3, cruising to victory by more than 12 lengths in his first trip to the track in more than six weeks.

Make plans to catch the exciting harness racing from Tioga Downs every Friday and Saturday at 6:50 p.m., and Sunday at 1:15 p.m.
