Calabrese earns another victory in GSY Series

East Rutherford, NJ — With two amateur races on the card for Memorial Day weekend, the GSY pace had nine horses go to post in the third race on Saturday night (May 25) at The Meadowlands.

With nobody leaving hard from the gate, the inside two horses, May I Cruise West (Mark Schullstrom) and Pier Ho Temptation (Scott Woogen) dueled to the first quarter in 27.4. Once Woogen cleared to the lead, Schullstrom was back out trying to retake before the half, but was never able to clear to the top.  He did start the early outer flow that had five horses out as the field approached the final turn.

Roy Marohn, driving post time favorite Mr Carrotts, made a bold three-wide move and as he was clearing, made a bad break that scattered the field.  As that happened, Matt Zuccarello moved Jackamino three wide at the top of the stretch and cleared to the lead as he did the week before, but this time was caught by a horse that saved ground.

So Take that (John Calabrese) stayed inside, saved ground and when a seam opened up, he took advantage en route to a three-quarter of a length victory.  Zuccarello finished second and Schullstrom managed to hold third.  The race went in 1:55.  This 10-year-old gelding is out of Camluck and is owned by Spencer Goldin and trainers by Alexandra Goldin.

Racing resumes next Friday night for the GSY amateurs with the first post slated to go at 7:15
