Calabrese, Schwartz NAADA winners at Yonkers

Yonkers, NY — John Calabrese and Alan Schwartz reined winners in their respective $10,000 North American Amateur Drivers Association Series events on Thursday (April 21) at Yonkers Raceway: Calabrese with Dark Pool in 1:58.4, and Schwartz with Raceace in 1:59.3.

In the first split, Calabrese left softly from post four and settled Dark Pool in fourth as Tony Verruso zipped to the lead with Winneress in a :29.4 first quarter. Verruso kept the pedal to the metal and Winneress maintained command through the :59.3 half, but Calabrese and Dark Pool were in pursuit of the leader past three-quarters in 1:29.2. When the field rounded the final turn, Dark Pool ranged alongside Winneress, and they raced head-to-head in the stretch. Dark Pool prevailed by a half length over Winneress; Pilgrim Caviar (Joe Lee) finished third.

In the other split, Schwartz and Raceace went right down the road from the pole position and played “catch me if you can.” Raceace got the first call at each stanza, and though Verruso rallied Call Me Thefireman in the homestretch, Raceace maintained a half-length advantage at the wire. Chief Justice (Tony Beltrami) finished third.
