Calgary Games disqualified in Paris

The Swedish trotting star Calgary Games, with Björn Goop, went off stride after three-quarters of a mile in the Prix Tenor de Baune at Vincennes, Paris, France on Saturday (Dec. 24) and was disqualified and placed last.

Timo Nurmos-trained Calgary Games came to Paris unbeaten in 10 races in Sweden and was the heavy favorite in the race, where the winner got a ticket to race in the Prix d’Amerique.

The only North American trotter in the field, Beads with Yoan Lebourgeois in the bike, took an early lead followed by Calgary Games, but after three-quarters of a mile Calgary Games suddenly became rough gaited and went off stride and was disqualified.

Beads — an 88-1 shot — was full of trot and led the field until 100 yards before the finish line. Horsy Dream with Eric Raffin went by Beads to win easy, followed by Happy Valley with Jean Philippe Dubois. Beads held on for third.

The winner, Horsy Dream, is sired by Scipion du Goutier, and trained by Pierre Belloche.
