Cambest, all-time fastest Standardbred, dies at 27

Lexington, KY — Cambest p,T1:46.1, the fastest Standardbred of all time, died Wednesday (June 10) at Walnut Hall Ltd. in Lexington, Ky. He was 27.

Cambest died June 10 at the age of 27.

In his four-year racing career, Cambest earned $1,444,835. He became the fastest Standardbred in history when he paced to a 1:46.1 time trial on Aug. 16, 1993, at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield.

Retired to the stud at Walnut Hall Ltd. at six, Cambest to date has progeny earnings of $134,485,044, which currently ranks seventh among pacing sires according to the career earnings of their foals.

Cambest exhibited unequaled speed and he passed it along to his foals successfully. He ranks fourth among pacing sires of 1:55 performers with 596.

Cambest will be laid to rest in the Walnut Hall cemetery beside the graves of Scotland, Volomite and Garland Lobell.
