Cams Little Imp N, Rain Dance Kim win Dover features

Dover, DE —- Cams Little Imp N unleashed a blistering late kick from fifth at the top of the stretch in a :272 final quarter to score a 1:55 victory in the $20,000 Mares Open Handicap Pace on Tuesday, January 6 at Dover Downs. Rain Dance Kim came on strong in the stretch to win the $15,500 Mares Winners Over Pace.

Cam’s Little Imp N rallied late to win the $20,000 Mares Open Handicap Pace.

In the feature race, Ross Wolfenden sat fifth on the outside with Cams Little Imp N as pacesetting Crossfire N (Mike Cole) and outside challenger Ann Other Porsche (Brad Hanners) dueled on the backstretch. Approaching the final turn Wolfenden took Cams Little Imp N three wide and then came on when the leaders straightened way in the stretch. Halfway down the lane during a :272 final panel Cams Little Imp N sped from fifth to the lead and recorded a 1:55 victory. Jennie Fanetta (Kevin Sizer) sped down the passing lane to finish second, edging Crossfire N. Ann Other Porsche was a whisker behind in fourth.

Trainer Kay Gannon spotted Cams Little Imp N in a $12,500 claimer early last year for Florence Nitkowski of Pittsville, Maryland. The Camtastic mare quickly became a standout in high class distaff events finishing 2003 with 12 wins, eight seconds and two thirds in 34 races, earning $115,802 in purses.

Jeffrey Franklin’s Rain Dance Kim, the Horse of the Meet last season, won the $15,500 Mares Winners Over semi-feature in her patented come-from-behind style. Travis Bowman won his third race of the day with a well-timed move three-wide on the last turn and accelerated in the stretch for a 1:552 triumph. Dreamland’s JoJo (Eddie Davis) cut out the early fractions and held off a challenge from Dream Of Mimi (Eddie Davis, Jr.), who had recovered from breaking stride at the start. Heading to the three-quarters, Rain Dance Kim made the winning move.

Carter Racing Stable and driver Travis Bowman recorded a double when Felicity ground down Movie Magic (Brad Hanners) in a stretch-long duel for a 1:56 victory in a $10,500 distaff pace. Chocolate Square (Bret Brittingham) came storming down the lane to pick up show money.

Eddie Davis urged Kim Book’s Meadowagogo past Our Man Josh (Donald Dancer) in the final strides for a 1:584 victory in the day’s top trot boasting a $10,500 purse. Pretty Goal Vita (Jim King, Jr.) was in the photo but finished third.

In a $10,800 Delaware Pace, Robin Breasure’s Art Burn, handled by Hal Belote, out-dueled front pacing Market Dreamer (Les Givens) in a two-horse battle from the three-quarters to the finish line in 1:56 to score his second consecutive victory. Mackie Boy (George Dennis) was third.

Monday through Thursday post time at Dover Downs is 4:30. No live racing is scheduled on Fridays. Saturday and Sunday racing starts at 5:30 p.m. There is no charge for parking or admission.
