Berlin, MD — Ocean Downs hosted Maryland Sire Stakes action for the older set over the past two nights.
On Sunday (July 22) the Maryland Sire Stake Open Pace for 4- and 5-year-olds went to post as race six on the card. Mr Ham Sandwich (Cam’s Rocket), who was dominant at both 2 and 3 in the stakes, returned to the Ocean winner’s circle in the 1:55.1 mile, five lengths ahead of Hybrid Heidi, also by Cam’s Rocket.
Mr Ham Sandwich is now owned by Allard Racing, Alycon Stable, How’s That Stable and VIP Internet Stable. Russell Foster picked up the drive from trainer Trevor Stafford. Brian Emerson was the breeder.
Monday (July 23) saw the 4- and 5-year-old Open Maryland Sire Stake for trotters hit the track as race two. Reinsman Jared Moyer sent EI EI O (Cam’s Rocket) from last to first on the backside, stretching their lead to six lengths in the 1:57.4 stakes record mile. Hybrid Henry (Cam’s Rocket) was up for place while Speed It (Cam’s Rocket) was third. Arlene Cameron owns and trains the winner.
In the pace the first two finishers were by Cam’s Rocket and in the trot the first four finishers were by Cam’s Rocket. Richard Hans was the breeder on the second place filly in the pace and finishers one, two and three in the trot.
The 2-year-old stakes season starts in Maryland on July 29 and 30 with the Maryland Standardbred Fund Stakes at Ocean Downs.
