Camwood scores in Monticello Open

Monticello, NY — The out of town invader Camwood scored a wire-to-wire win in the $6,700 Open Pace at Monticello Raceway on Tuesday (May 4).

The 7-year-old gelded son of Woodstock notched his fifth win of the season.

Bruce Aldrich Jr. hustled Camwood away from the gate, leaving from post position four to wrestle the lead from Certified Ideal just past the quarter in a tepid :29. Aldrich continue to control the pace through splits of :58.4 and 1:27.4 to win by 1-1/4 lengths over Certified Ideal (Justine Huckabone) and Grand Priority (Brandon Parker) in 1:56.4. The winner paid $3.60.

Camwood is owned by George Dremonas and is trained by Chris Petrelli, who is currently in third place in the leading dash winning trainers here with 24 wins. Atop the leaderboard is Bo Sowers with 40 wins.

Also on the card, Brandon Parker and Kyle Dibenedetto each enjoyed a driving double, A trio of gals got an extra early Mother’s Day present, as Megan Scran, Veronica Merton and Jody Riedel each had a training win on the afternoon. For Veronica it was extra special as it was also her birthday.
