Cano wins GSY Series Final at the Meadowlands

East Rutherford, NH – The finals of this amateur pace race took place in the first race on the card and there wasn’t a speed duel to the quarter.  That’s because McNulty Z Tam (Peter Lancaster) gunned his pacer from the five hole to the top and opened up two lengths at the quarter pole on the field.

He was able to maintain this advantage into the stretch over pocket-sitter Ruthless Dude (Andrew Adamczyk) and third on the rail, So So De Vie (Matt Zuccarello).   He did go the second quarter the same as the first (27.3/55.1 half) and this set it up for the closers to come calling.

First on the outer flow was Walks of Life (Marianna Monaco), followed by Watchmeneighneigh (Tony Beltrami). Behind those two on the outside was Tailgunner Hanover (Juan Cano), who got away eighth, but made a bold sweep to the lead in deep stretch and ended up winning by just over a length in a mile timed in 1:52.4 after a last quarter in :27.  Beltrami ended up second best while longtime leader Lancaster faded to third.

This 7-year-old gelding out of the mare Towner’s Image by Well Said is owned and trained by Cano’s girlfriend Adrienne Hall who is from NJ.

The GSY will take a brief holiday break but be back in action in January.
