Can’t Beach That can’t be beat in Rosecroft Open Handicap

Ft. Washington, MD — Jonathan Roberts had three horses to choose from in the Open Handicap at Rosecroft. Two of them, trained by his dad, Bib Roberts, each won their last start. On Sunday night (April 24), Roberts passed those drives onto others and his choice of Can’t Beach That proved to be a winning one.

The 6-year-old son of of Somebeachsomewhere scorched the fast Fort Washington oval in 1:50.3, including a :26.4 sprint home, to hold off a pocket sitting Precision Bluechip to win. It was the fifth win of the season in 14 starts for Can’t Beach That as he cut fractions of :26.2, :55.2, and 1:23.4 on his way to victory.

Michael Hall trains the winner, owned by Surprise Pic, and it gave Hall 29 wins on the meet. It was one of three wins on the card for Roberts.

Jim Morand had four winning drives on the night, three coming for trainer Trevor Stafford. Russell Foster had a pair of wins, one of which with Cousin Brucie, gave trainer Thomas Lord his first career win. Trae Porter also had two driving wins on the night.
