Canwood sets season’s mark in Meadows series repeat

Washington, PA Canwood jogged to a front-endvictory in 1:56.2, fastest this year by a 3-year-old filly on afive-eighths-mile track, collecting her second straight series win inWednesday’s (April 12) Princess Pablano Trot for 3-year-old fillies at The Meadows. MissDa Line earned her second straight series win in the other $15,000 division.

Canwood zippedright to the lead from post five for Brian Zendt and easily turned back thefirst-over challenge of Criteria. The pocket-sitting Bridal Suite was secondwhile Kannections Honey rallied for show. Bill Zendt conditions the daughter ofCamwood-Hallywood for Judith Wolkomir and Fred Kayne.

Miss Da Linewas bottled up along the cones until the final turn when trainer/driver RayPaver was able to angle her outside. The daughter of Muscle Massive-Sister Kateoverpowered the leader, Massive Risk, and downed her by 3/4 lengths in 1:58,matching her career best. Long Driveway finished third. Harry Horowitz and IrisHorowitz bred and own Miss Da Line.

Wednesday’scard also featured the track’s top trotters in a pair of events. In the $20,000Winners Over $10,000 Life/Preferred Handicap, Barn Girl made it three straightwhen she held off Flowers N Songs by 1/2 length and triumphed in 1:55.1. AaronMerriman drove for trainer Bill Bercury and owner Renee Bercury. The 5-year-olddaughter of Cash Hall-Turquoise Sweetie now has won 33 of 67 lifetime starts.

In the $18,000Preferred Handicap, Call For Justice extended his winning to five with afront-end promenade in 1:53.2 for Dave Palone, trainer Ron Burke and owners BurkeRacing Stable and Weaver Bruscemi LLC. The pocket-sitting Tricky Nick wassecond while TSM Photo Bugger raced well first over for show.
