Captain Nash sets sail at Bangor Raceway

Bangor. ME — Captain Nash continued his rampage through the state of Maine top-level pacing classes on Sunday (May 8), discouraging the upper crust set at Bangor Raceway, utilizing a dazzling display of speed before stepping effortlessly clear at the wire to stop the clock in a blazing 1:53, establishing the fastest race time recorded this season on the Pine Tree harness racing circuit.

Driver Bruce Ranger confidently floated the 6-year-old son of Captaintreacherous off the car in the $6,500 featured event, content to allow the competition to claim position through Bangor’s quick arriving first turn, before seemingly engaging warp speed to swoop the group just past the quarter-mile marker.

The contest was effectively settled at that point in the mile as the field chased in vain through progressively quickening fractions, unable to mount any meaningful offensive maneuver into the teeth of Captain Nash’s overpowering :55.4 back half which was punctuated by an effortless :27.3 closing panel as he glided five lengths the best at the wire.

Grand Galop Semalu (Dan Deslandes) mounted a powerful rally once again this week to secure his second consecutive bridesmaid tally, while David Ingraham painted the perfect picture of patience in engineering a third place finish with Rocksapatriot after sitting in the trailing position for most of the mile.

The victory, one of three on the card for Ranger, extended Captain Nash’s current win streak to three for owner Reginald Duguay and trainer Richard Bartlett.

In other Bangor happenings, drivers Gary Mosher and Aaron Hall both registered driving doubles on Sunday, while trainer Benson Merrill added two more wins to extend his meet leading tally.

Bangor Raceway proudly features live harness racing every Wednesday at 3 p.m. (EDT) with the popular Sunday matinees getting underway at 12:15 p.m. Simulcast wagering is available Wednesday through Sunday from noon until 7 p.m.
